Jane has spent most of her working life supporting troubled young people, first as a teacher, then as a residential social worker in a hostel for young women and their babies, and for 15 years as an Anglican chaplain in Young Offenders Institutions.
In 2015 she and her husband gave up their paid roles to volunteer full time with the charity Hands at Work in Africa, dividing their time between Africa and the UK. The charity works alongside local volunteers in some of the poorest communities in 8 countries in southern Africa to support orphans and vulnerable children. In 2016 she was awarded the MBE for her work in prison chaplaincy.
Jane and her husband have two daughters and three grandchildren.
