This Fellowship has been in existence for over 50 years. Its aims are to provide companionship and support to the Members and to be of service to the life of St Philip’s and St James’ Churches.
Ladies’ Fellowship is part of a wider movement, the Association of Church Fellowships, and annually we attend the Association’s Eucharist Service in Birmingham Cathedral.
Ladies’ Fellowship meets regularly on the first and third Monday of most months. These meetings, which always begin with prayer, usually consist of speakers on a variety of subjects - some serious, some more frivolous.
There are occasional social evenings, visits to local theatre and to places of interest. In the past we have been ‘invited’ to Highgrove, visited the House of Commons, Westonbirt, Cambridge, and many other places.
During 2010 we hope to go to York and to Alweras. We celebrate Christmas with a Carol Service and in the New Year go out for a celebration meal.
There is a membership fee of £10 and members also pay £1.00 whenever they attend a meeting. Visitors are charged £1.50. While membership has been exclusively for ladies, we do welcome our gentlemen friends to many of our meetings, and always to the Carol Service and on outings.
We are supportive of each other and the wider church and community. We share some of our meetings with our Methodist friends. Fund raising is a small part of what we do, mainly through an annual, well-supported quiz evening.
Most of our giving goes to the ACF Charity of the Year, but we also give support to other needs, both locally and worldwide. Cake stalls have become part of our remit, particularly at the Annual Fun Run!
Do look at our programme of events. You will be sure of a warm welcome if you would like to join us.
