The PCC of St Philip’s and St James’ Church today announced plans to sign up to a green initiative called 10.10.

10.10, started by Franny Armstrong, the Director of ‘The Age of Stupid’, aims to encourage individuals, the grass roots, and also organisations and corporations, to sign up and reduce their energy use by 10% by the end of 2010.

The PCC also agreed that, as well as reducing the energy use of the Church buildings, Church members should also be encouraged to sign up to 10.10 as individuals, and so help to reduce the energy use of the whole Church family.

There are 10 suggestions on the 10.10 site which cover various practical ways in which everyone might all get involved and reduce energy use this year including turning down thermostats on radiators and turning off radiators in halls, changing light bulbs, leaving the car at home one day a week , and taking showers rather than baths.
